I’ve always been good at articulating raw feelings that are indefinable.  I met women that said I put on paper exactly the things they were thinking.  My writing is fearless; it is so easy to spill my guts when I’m all alone in front of a computer.  I used the character as a stepping stone.  The poems started in my head and heart, they were in part my emotions but I allowed the heroine to take all the risks.  For me, it was a personal journey into my own dark places and the most amazing result was that in the end, when it was all said and done I found myself out in the bright sunshine once again.  

I never thought that writing these things down for the world to read would start a kind of sexual reawakening for other women who are around my age.  In between events and sometimes during them I was able to chat with women who had similar emotions.  I had a woman ask me if sex could be fun.  I actually filled up because I knew how confused she was. I told her exactly what I have learned very recently. Yes, sexuality can be fun and it is a very big part of who we are.  It is healthy to take joy in being close to another human being. I wish our mothers hadn’t been so afraid to tell us that. Then again, maybe we need to come into this knowledge when we are mature enough to handle it. 

I spoke more freely with these strangers than I do with my own friends.  I have no idea why but it just happened at a little event called Romcon.  I see now that it is good to talk about what confuses us.  You may not have the conversation with someone else but you all need to have it with yourselves.  My book is a great starting place. 

This weekend I found that I am not alone.  We are all sisters, we need to let our guard down and talk more or we all might have our sanity interrupted.

Crush: (G)– Romances targeted for teens or adults that are still safe for preteens.  You will see this rating mostly in our Young Adult and Inspirational Romances.

Sweet: (PG-PG13)–Most romances fall into this category.  The love scenes may get a bit steamy, but there is no explicit sex. Some YA may fall into this category.

Spicy (R-NC17)–Most of our Erotic Romance books fall into this category.  These stories have all of the elements of a good romance story, but also include explicit sex scenes.

Smokin’: (XXX)–these stories are well written erotic fiction with explicit sex scenes that may push limits.  There may or may not be romance/romantic elements in these stories.  This level is mostly found in our Erotica section.

There was overwhelming support for our Curvalicious and Silver Sirens lines.  I also talked to readers who had other needs Accomplice hadn’t addressed yet.  So, with you, the reader in mind, we are expanding our Specialty Lines.  We are also tightening up the genres we accept and streamlining our offerings to meet what you want to read.

The announcements on our new lines and other changes will be officially made on 8/1/10, so don’t miss it!

Accomplice Press strives to release the best that new and veteran writers have to offer their readers.  The entire staff was optimistic that we would find several stories worthy of publication under the Curvalicious line. With heavy hearts we are announcing that there are no winners for the Curvalicious writing competition.  There were numerous entries that had potential for other lines, but only one writer grasped the publisher’s concept of who a Curvalicious heroine really is. Unfortunately, after some research Accomplice Press found that the winning entry was un-publishable because of undisclosed contractual reasons. 

We at Accomplice Press understand completely who full figure women really are on the inside and outside.  These women are our friends, sisters, mothers, wives and grandmothers; they are all beautiful and deserve to be able to read romance novels about characters that look like they do. Curvalicious women are sexy, intelligent and alluring without making their size the focus of the storyline.  It is also important to the staff at Accomplice Press that we stay away from the stereotypical “chubby-chaser” romances or stories that the main character loses large amounts of weight.

The Curvalicious Romance Line is very important to us as women and as publishers.  It is our first specialty series to be launched and therefore it has become near and dear to all our hearts.  We want women with curves to have books that inspire them to get lost in the stories and fall in love with heroines that look and think just like they do.  The world’s perception of true beauty is slowly changing and we want to influence the movement.  Curvalicious can help voluptuous women feel like they are sexy and viable in this romance driven society.  This is a new concept for mainstream publishers and writers.  We had great hopes for the writing contest but are not discouraged.  The primary partners in Accomplice Press have all dealt with challenges; this is just another learning experience.  We know that in time we will find a Curvalicious manuscript like our best seller, A Reason to Stay by Delinda Jasper.  Her book epitomizes what Curvalicious is all about.

On a Happier Note…AP Staff and Writers go to Romcon!

CEO & Editor in Chief, DJ Alling and I will be traveling to Denver on July 9th to promote Accomplice Press at RomCon. http://www.romconinc.com/   The event is for publishers, authors and readers of romance books.  We will be attending numerous events but are very excited about being part of the Romance Reader Roundtables and a forum where we will officially introduce ourselves to the romance publishing world. 

Accomplice Press’ best selling author Delinda Jasper and poet K. Jones will also be participating in many events scheduled including Midnight Sexcapades and the Build a Hero workshop. We hope to see some of you there.
